Dwarf Planet?
I think these are the signs of Armageddon. First, politics are so corrupt that even the Democrats are fixing election results. Second, Republicans didn't learn that fabricating intelligence data to invade Iraq leads to civil unrest. Third, Jon Benet Ramsey's killer has finally confessed and it wasn't the Ramseys. But now the killer may not be the killer.
And finally... Pluto is no longer a planet.
This is outrageous. Especially since only a handful of astronomers voted on the decision (about 300). They're calling it a dwarf planet -- one of the three dwarves (Ceres and Xena are the others). I think the astronomers are getting their fairy tales mixed up.
OK. I'm being dramatic. But it's kind of sad to think the little space object on the fringes of our solar system no longer gets to be part of our little family. I'm kind of excited about the space mission to Pluto. A spacecraft should reach it in 2015. I've always been fascinated with space. planets, stars and our solar system. Pluto has been so intriguing to me, since so little is known. I wonder what we'll find out about it.

Can you imagine what it would be like for a fourther grader. Last week when studying for a test on the Solar System there were nine planets. This week when they finally take the test, there's one less!

What about all of the scorpios who have no ruling planet? Are they ruled by comets, meteors, or dust now?

SJ - I supposed they have to pretend that it's 1905 and Pluto doesn't exist. What was the ruling planet of Scorpio back then? Anyone???

God, love Pluto! The name of my future dog.

My biggest thing is - what is up with Xena? Celestial objects are supposed to be named after ancient Roman divinity, not fictional tv characters. (yes I realize it's an "unofficial" name).
Mars used to be the ruling planet for Scorpio... I feel like I've lost part of my soul.. :p (I like Joey's answer though)
As a side note, I remember when I was in maybe 1st grade and I came home and told my mom about how we learned about the planets, she told me when she went to school there were only 8.

Poor Pluto!! Is it weird that I feel sorry for it? I guess I'm linking the planet with the Disney dog. I guess both are really inanimate objects, aren't they? And who knew I even had emotions left?!? To make you feel better, I've read recently that some "planets" even further from Pluto are now being considered for our solar system. Maybe Pluto will be replaced with Pluto II??

UGH - I just wrote a long comment and it got erased!!
ANYWAY - I read recently that scientists discovered new planets that should be added to our solar system...I hope they name one Sparky so that a planet can finally be named after a dog instead of the other way around. Or maybe they can name it Gremlin after a car - again, instead of the other way around!

It's a bit of a waste of time arguing about the worthiness of planet. But now that the debate is over, I can finally sleep soundly at night.

I definitely think we need a planet named after Little Richard, possibly the coolest human being in the universe. Screw the whole idea of naming them after Greek Gods, we should name them after people who are really relevant to our lives, like Justin Timberlake, for example.
