Honestly Folks...

So an anonymous reader of my blog got upset that I acknowledged that the new leader of Arizona's oldest, most-widely read and, quite honestly, best GLBT magazine also does adult films. I'm feeling a bit defensive about what I did.

Mostly because I'm correct in what I posted yesterday. Secondly, it was humorous--it wasn't done in a malicious way. So I'm going to destroy each and every little point made by said anonymous commenter to demonstrate how WRONG those points are (motherfucker--i whispered that).

BTW--Jeff said I shouldn't respond because it's just a personal attack and they only mean something if I let them... Ultimately Jeff is correct. But I'm annoyed, so fuck it.

So here goes:

Of course, no one who reads this blog or reads Echo would have known that the guy is/was a porn star until you put it up here for all the WWW to see.

WRONG!

As soon as his picture is placed in the next issue of Echo, where he will have a little writeup, his picture will be in it. His picture is also in next month's X-Factor. Most people read both. In fact, most establishments have them side by side for people to take. All it takes is one person to notice they are the same person.

His feature in X-Factor was under his stage name, not his real one.

I know that. I didn't disclose his real name. In fact, I Googled his stage name to find a picture. Under the picture was his stage name and his real name. I'm not treading new ground here.

Everyone has a past. It was up to the gentleman to decide when and if to disclose his -- not you. Your choosing to tell his story here was most ungentlemanly, not to mention potentially detrimental to your employer.

That's true, everyone has a past. I have a horrid past, most of it documented here. But the thing is--it's NOT his past. It's his present.

He's currently shooting a film now. Second, he has to disclose this. I told Buddy that one of my main reasons for posting this blog was to get it out of my system. It's detrimental to our employer only if it's not addressed. There's a two-ton elephant in the room and nobody wants to talk about it.

Second, if you know anything about the GLBT community in Phoenix (or anywhere else), you'd know there are no secrets.

I have read your blog for a while. You always struck me as an honest, sincere, non-judgmental kind of person. The lack of consideration you have shown here is truly disappointing.

When I write up his introductory story for Echo, I'm not going to write, "Oh, by the way, he does porn." Although that would be honest and sincere, THAT would show a lack of consideration.

I can honestly say that I'm not judging. In fact, I wrote, "We've all decided we have to give him a chance." And I will do that. I'm honest and sincere when I wrote that statement. I am going to give him a chance.

The truth of the matter is. I just stated the facts. I wrote down what is known. And I echoed people's sentiments in the office. Did I cross the line? No. Did I walk along it? Yes.

I was just stating my opinion, you've stated yours. I'm treating this as court and this is my rebuttal. The witness has left the chair and there's no redirect.

I promise a much more fun post next time.

  • This "Jeff" guy sounds like a nut. I wouldn't listen to him. Especially when he's spouting out nonsense after midnight when his medication wears off or kicks in (depends on the day).

  • I´m sorry Ted, but if someone doesn´t have the balls to sign after a comment... he is not worthy of any reply...

whatever he has written under "annonymous" can´t be taken seriously

actually, I haven´t even finished reading this post of you...
a reply to an "anon" doesn´t worth five minutes... I´m sorry.

  • Forgive a lurker for de-lurking a moment to post.

First and foremost, Helen Twelve Year Old is DEAD WRONG.

Ted, you bear absolutely no responsibility for this "supposed" revelation. The accountability for this personal F-A-C-T lies solely with the person who made a conscious and informed decision as an adult to enter this line of work (and apparently chooses to actively [or passively. Ha!] continue in this role).

  • T: You are absolutely awesome to respond the way you did. Speaking of which, as an HR professional, you're safe as long as you stated fact, which you did. Unfortunately the ANON person had a beef with you or is currently sleeping with your new boss. Yes, we all have a past and a present...and your new boss would obviously know that he'd have some credibility and professional challenges with a porn past. If he's charasmatic and has a head on his shoulders, he should be able to get past it. BUT, and that's a a big PORN BUT, if he's currently still in the business making films, that's a HUGE, and I mean HUGE, liability to Echo and it's credibility and reputation. I don't want to ready a serious story written by a current porn star....especially on gay issues. (But, that's just me) I'd say he needs to make a choice in which profession he wants to pursue....you can't do both.

  • While I do not like everrybody in the world to know all of my business upon first introduction- I also accept that my businessis out there. My moto is (beside "of course, I swallow.") if you are not proud of it,don't do it.

(I hate when people introduce me to a new person andimmediately follow it up with "He's Barbra Seville.")
I am proud of most of the choices I have made in my life- and I have apologized for most of the choices I amnot so proud of.

The new Tim knew he was in a high profile arena. He also knew he was entering a high profile jobwith Echo. GM is a very visible position. I am sure he is comfortable reconciling his two worlds.

As for anynomous posters- they suck. Add your name or shut the fuck up.

I am sorry, that was rude.
Add your name, or shut the fuck up, please.

  • Credibility? Seems to me tha as a reader, t I'll know-for-sure that this employee's coverage of gay issues comes from a gay point of view. I know he's gay, I've seen proof. :)

  • Ed's analytical commentary addresses gay issues with sensitivity and sound observations.

The other Ted's comments were right on.

My comments are: if you can't stand up to what you have to say, don't say it.

  • Sorry you lost me at "anonymous poster said...". Anyone who is so spineless, especially on the faceless internet, to post a pejorative critique anonymously is just pathetic. And "coming out" after you've been called out doesn't make up for said pathetic spinelessness. At least have the balls (or eggs) to sign your name to what you say. It's just laughable. Glad you finally came out Ms. Twelve-toes.

  • i can see the concern. 'we' are still vying for the credibility that 'they' take for granted, and while it can be classified as a double standard, unfair, unequal, etc, 'we' DO have to hold ourselves up to a higher standard while 'we' make progress while 'they' all calm the fuck down about who we have sex with.

in short. it IS an issue. It isn't the end of the world, but it IS something and for a company that has actively stepped forward to promote cultural integration and recognition of 'us' among all the 'thems' it seems a tad 'shock factor-ish' to just slap that on the GM line. Kinda like Evangs blasting you with getting to know Jesus (their 'porn star'?) and telling 'us' and 'everyone else' that we have to just accept it, well... you get my drift.

    or not.

you'll never regret being honest about your thoughts or the way you feel.

  • Wow, where have I been? I totally missed all the fun.
Personally I could give a shit if someone did porn, who cares, of course I am in the minority.
However, hypocrisy is something else and completely unforgivable.
Too bad he isnt one of the cuter ones....
This will be interesting to see how it all turns out.
